In response to February Writing Prompts at Putting My Feet in the Dirt.

If I were the wind,
I would tousle your hair,
caress your face,
and whisper in your ear.
I would lift ladies’ skirts
and snatch men’s hats
to make you laugh.
I would clear your cloudy skies,
keep your kite aloft,
but steal your balloon.
Love and loss are so intimately related.
I would lay flower petals,
seeds, and feathers at your feet.
I would lift your prayers to heaven.
And I would carry your scent,
and the echoes of your voice with me
forever and ever.

Like a note from St. Valentine left on the nightstand. Love it, bittersweet though its truth!

Lovely images. You captured the essence of a mischievous wind as someone’s playful nature so well. You have also used the ragtag prompt word for today (balloon) so you could link it up there! 🙂

That’s lovely – I love the different characters the wind takes, and the ending is lushly romantic. Thank your sharing.

Thanks! When I wrote it I was thinking of two lovers, one of whom has died, but he’s still out there loving her the only way he can and he hopes she sees him. 💕

The wind is such a strong metaphor for love… still there is something sad about only adoring from afar.

Love feels very much alive in this poem, even if they aren’t together.
